Pharmacist Intern License and Social Security Card
All students enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program at the Texas A&M Rangel College of Pharmacy participate in experiential activities that require a pharmacist intern license issued by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP). To obtain an intern license, students must possess a valid social security number and provide a copy of their social security card to the TSBP. More details regarding the pharmacist intern license are provided during Pre-Orientation and General Orientation.
To ensure students can meet this TSBP requirement, the Texas A&M Rangel College of Pharmacy requires all students matriculating into the program to possess a valid social security. Applicants who do not have a social security card are advised to begin the process of obtaining one immediately and should visit the website for the United States Social Security Administration, https://www.ssa.gov/
Potential Implications of a Criminal Record
Felony or misdemeanor convictions may prevent some student pharmacists from completing their experiential education requirements (possible that a pharmacy intern license will not be granted) or obtaining licensure after graduation due to site or state restrictions. These requirements will vary from state to state. Prospective and current students should contact the state board of pharmacy they wish to be licensed in to discuss potential implications of a criminal record in order to decide whether to assume the related risks and costs of the program.
