Education

He received his Bachelor of Arts in spanish with a minor in education in 1976 from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana. He received his Master of Arts in education in 1979 from the University of Louisiana at Monroe and his doctorate in health education in 1991 from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.

Career

Memorial Fund

The Texas A&M Health Science Center Foundation and the Texas A&M Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy have established the “Dr. James Robertson Jr. Memorial Fund,” which can be accessed online. Checks can be made payable to the TAMHSC Foundation. Please write “JR Memorial Fund” on the for or memo line of the check and mail to the Office of Dean, Texas A&M Rangel College of Pharmacy, MSC 131, 1010 West Avenue B, Kingsville, Texas, 78363. This fund will be utilized to epitomize and symbolize Robertson’s legacy at the Rangel College of Pharmacy.

In addition, the students at the Rangel College of Pharmacy have planned the Ties & Tennis Shoes Memorial 5K Walk/Run in honor of Dr. Robertson in order to raise funds for a scholarship.

  • A four-year scholarship grant award of $2.6 million (the maximum award of $650,000 each year beginning November 2012) from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-Health Resources and Services Administration under the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students Program
  • A $650,000 grant award in 2010 for disadvantaged and financially deprived students from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-Health Resources and Services Administration under the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students Program
  • A $597,459 grant award in 2009 for disadvantaged and financially deprived students from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-Health Resources and Services Administration under the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students Program
  • A $299,445 grant award in 2008 for disadvantaged and financially deprived students from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-Health Resources and Services Administration under the Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students Program
  • Authored Electronic Transfer of Transcripts for the ULM Developmental Grants program Implementation of Electronic Data Interchange in Louisiana Post-Secondary Institutions. This was a $5,000 proposal written and submitted in 2000 to the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) Developmental Grants Program Committee to secure funds to purchase software for ULM to begin the process of implementing institutional hardware when purchased for the electronic transmission of student data among institutions in the state of Louisiana with Electronic Data Interchange Technology in an effort to better serve students not only at ULM, but also at all community and technical colleges and university systems in the state of Louisiana.
  • Authored ULM Marketing and Recruitment Plan and 2003-2005 Enrollment Goals. Written for the Louisiana Board of Regents and the University of Louisiana System. Funded for more than $200,000 in 2002 and funded annually on an indefinite basis for more than $100,000 each year to enhance the University of Louisiana at Monroe’s recruitment efforts. In the 2011 fiscal year, the funded total amount exceeds $1 million.
  • Authored Academic and Mainstream Skills Education Pharmacy Boot Camp Program, a $5,000 proposal written and submitted in 2005 to Coastal Bend Foundation Grants Program to request funding for the TAMU-K Pre-Pharmacy Association to provide mainstream and social skills to enhance the abilities of pre- and professional students with the intention of enrolling in the TAMHSC Rangel College of Pharmacy.
  • Authored Academic and Mainstream Skills Education Pharmacy Boot Camp Program, a $5,000 proposal written and submitted in 2006 to Coastal Bend Foundation Grants Program to request funding for the TAMU-K Pre-Pharmacy Association to provide mainstream and social skills to enhance the abilities of pre- and professional students with the intention of enrolling in the TAMHSC Rangel College of Pharmacy.
  • Authored Beckman Coulter Genomics Educational Research Matching Funds Program, a $40,000 grant, written and submitted in 2006 to Beckman Coulter to be applied toward the purchase of CEQ 8800 or GenomeLab GeXP Genetic Analysis System for research to be conducted in the TAMHSC Rangel College of Pharmacy.
